Bento Page

Bento Page collabs via CRDT with AES-GCM E2EE — the relay sees ciphertext, not your slides.

Overview

Bento Page

Bento Page supports live collaboration without sacrificing the single-file model. When two or more users open the same Bento Page deck, they enter a CRDT-backed real-time session where every keystroke, every slide reorder, and every chart update is synchronized across participants. The collaboration is end-to-end encrypted with AES-GCM, the relay only sees ciphertext, and the room key never leaves the participants.

The cryptographic posture of Bento Page collaboration is unusually thorough. Read-only access can be granted via a cryptographically signed RBAC token, which means a reviewer can be invited to view a deck without the ability to edit or extract the underlying JSON. In-app updates to Bento Page itself are cryptographically signed as well, so a compromised relay cannot push a malicious patch to a user's editor. Every layer of the collaboration surface inside Bento Page assumes an adversarial network.

For a presentation tool, that level of cryptographic discipline is rare. Most competitors either skip collaboration entirely or run it through a vendor-controlled cloud service that holds the master document. Bento Page instead treats collaboration as a peer-to-peer capability: the optional relay sees ciphertext, connection timing, and a hash of the room key, and that is all. The relay cannot reconstruct the deck, cannot impersonate a participant, and cannot tamper with the document mid-flight.

The practical consequence is that a confidential Bento Page deck can be co-authored by a distributed team — designers in Berlin, lawyers in New York, founders in Singapore — without any of them trusting the underlying cloud provider. The relay is replaceable; the cryptographic envelope is the security boundary. Bento Page demonstrates that real-time collaboration and zero-trust architecture can coexist in a single HTML file. For security-focused teams that have been waiting for a serious alternative to the SaaS presentation incumbents, Bento Page collaboration is the feature that finally tips the scales.
